Documents you should always carry in your vehicle

Driving is a privilege, not a right, and you need to follow the laws in your state, in this case, North Carolina, when you get into a vehicle to drive. At JC Demo Insurance Group in Matthews, NC, we have been helping residents find the right insurance products for over 20 years. As independent insurance agents, we work for our customers, not for the big insurance companies, and we strive to personalize your insurance experience.

Driver’s license

You must have a driver’s license to drive in North Carolina. You should always have one on your person, which will place it in the vehicle when you are in the vehicle. If a police officer asks to see your license, ensure it is where you can quickly produce it if necessary.

Registration

Your vehicle needs to be registered with the state to be on the road. You must also pay for your personal property vehicle tax, which you can do simultaneously to register your car. If you don’t register your vehicle, you will be breaking the law, and you will have to pay more for both the tax and the registration if you pay it late. If you are caught without registration, you could face a fine. You must also ensure your vehicle has a safety and emission test before registration.

Insurance card

Your vehicle must have basic auto insurance to drive in North Carolina. When you get your policy renewal, it comes with insurance cards that must be kept in your vehicle at all times. If you lose one, you can usually print them out on the insurance company’s website.

If you have all three documents in your vehicle, you are good to go.
